I have recently cut soda out of my diet and it has been really tough until I started making my own green tea. I was trying to replace soda and other sugary drinks with water but I kept on falling off the wagon out of sheer boredom with the taste of water. I know its good for me and I really don’t mind water but sometimes I need some flavor in my day. I have also steered away from flavored waters and the drink packets because they usually have artificial sweeteners and unnecessary and unpronounceable stuff in them.
I start my day with my morning cup of tea which is usually Vanilla Carmel tea from Bigelow… it is like dessert in a cup. Sometimes I switch it up and have one of their flavored green teas which is also pretty darn tasty. I really like the pomegranate and the blueberry acai. Then I fill up my water pitcher at work and gulp that down throughout the day. I always feel better when I cut the soda out of my diet but I get so tired of water. I know it is good for me BUT I get so bored and end up relapsing to bubbly from the vending machine. And the cycle continues until now… I hope!
So I got to thinking… I like green tea and it comes in lots of flavors too. I know you can buy green ice tea but it is kinda bland and blah. So I grabbed some of my flavored green tea and made a batch of my own green iced tea. I don’t have an iced tea maker and I am not going to go buy one so here’s what I did. I heated up one mug of water until boiling (2 1/2 – 3 minutes). I put flavored green tea bags in and let it sit all night long. In the morning I pour it into my pitcher, add 2 more cups of cold water and stevia and head out the door with my iced tea in tow. You can pick any flavor or flavor combination that you want.
I have tried other flavors (and brands) of tea but I do have to say Bigelow is my favorite. They have the best flavors and they are individually wrapped too so they stay fresh and I can easily bring some to work with me.
When I hoped on over to the Bigelow site I found a really large collection of recipes. They even have non-beverage recipes using tea too. I even found one for my absolute favorite tea.. Vanilla Caramel Bread Pudding which I am totally going to try.
